We’re Baaack….with Holiday Hair Tips of course…

Okay guys, so it has been a long time since we last posted (almost a year to be precise- we fell off the wagon!) and there is so much to chat about. Not to worry however, we won’t cram it all into one post. So, the topic of the day is (drumroll please…)

FIVE WAYS TO MAXIMIZE YOUR HOLIDAY HAIR

Now, at this point you must be wondering “What exactly does that mean?” Long story short, these are five tips to maintain your hair extensions throughout the hustle and bustle of the holidays and keep them looking fabulous. You already have the long and lustrous locks that everyone envies so why not kick it up a notch in the hair department and have yourself a merry little Christmas.

 1. Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is fabulous for obvious reasons, but there are a few not so obvious reasons as to why it is at the top of our list. Aside from soaking up oil on stringy locks, dry shampoo can create great volume on dirty or clean hair. It’s a great alternative to teasing, especially for those with hair extensions. We all want a little volume anytime we style our hair and we both know that you will be styling and teasing for your life while you’re getting ready for that ugly sweater party- this can wreak havoc on your extension bonds no matter what method. Achieve similar volume with dry shampoo instead. Simply spray the product on your scalp and rub with your fingers for texture. Pretty simple and you won’t have loose, slipping and tangled extensions after the fact. Below are two of our fave dry shampoos.

 2.Hot Rollers

Yes everyone, we are taking it back old school. We’re still not entirely sure as to why everyone ditched the hot roller bandwagon, but its time to bring this trend back. Think of the incredibly glamorous stars of late like Veronica Lake and even our modern Victoria’s Secret Angels (see what I did there- catch the show tonight at 9:00 on CBS). Hard to believe, but they use hot rollers people! Hot rollers won’t put as much heat on your hair and extensions as other curling methods (wands, irons, etc) and in turn will result in less damage and longer use of your hair extensions. BIG BONUS: your curls will last longer without the need for a crazy amount of hairspray.

 3. Hair Accessories

Let’s be honest with ourselves, Christmas time is a very festive time of year. It’s okay to jump on board with the cliché. You don’t have to necessarily take the Christmas hair accessory tip in a literal sense (Unless you want to of course. In that case, hats off to you for basically being awesome and fearless). For a sparkly and seasonally appropriate look try a small accessory (DIY fake poinsettia flowers hairpin maybe?) or even a headband. Regardless of what you choose to do, we’re more than sure that you will look absolutely stunning!

4. Hair Oil

This is so crucial! Dry hair is horrendous, but dry extensions are absolutely unforgivable. Keep in mind that your hair extensions are not attached directly to your scalp. This means that they are missing out on some of the natural oils that your scalp produces. Moisture is key for everything, especially hair extensions. It’s somewhat of an unspoken tradition for everyone to curl and hairspray the living daylights out of their hair in prep for parties and Holiday events (try not to do this), but even if you do (or don’t for that matter) hair oil is absolutely essential for your hair extensions! Our favorite is Macadamia’s healing oil. It is F-A-B-U-…..(you know the rest, link below)

 5. Maintenance & Move Ups

When your hair extension specialist tells you to come in every 6-8 weeks for maintenance, they aren’t joking. They don’t mean every 12 weeks, or every 16- 18 weeks. They quite literally mean every 6-8 weeks (or whatever timeline that they have given you). When you stretch out maintenance and move ups, the only party suffering is your natural hair. Extensions should not cause damage, but when you avoid this very important aspect of care, you are just asking for damage, matting, and hair loss. If you want your extensions to look fabulous for this holiday season, go in for your maintenance and move-up. That little piece of advice is our gift to you. You’re welcome!

Hair Extensions…What are you really buying?

There’s so many options for hair extensions out there. It seems like everyday, there’s some new online store or what I look instapeneurs (girls haphazardly claiming to sell you great hair on Instagram of all places). I don’t quite know how to tell you this, but all of that hair is exactly the same! Basically, it’s all crap (Sorry, not sorry). It seems like it doesn’t matter where you go, you’re going to run into a wall of chemically processed, synthetic and pitiful hair.  The kicker to it all is that the people selling this hair to you have the gall to lie…flat our to your face! They tag on elusive titles to the hair like Bolivian, Peruvian, or my favorite BRAZILIAN. FYI to any naïve buyers out there; Brazil is a country filled with gorgeous women who focus on maintaining their beauty. Imagine a country filled to the brim with naturally gorgeous Kim Kardashians (minus the 6- hour glam squad prep time, painfully narcissistic fiancé, and knack for irritating the public). Now, imagine those women running around completely bald. Let me save you time here because YOU CAN’T!

(Gisele Bundchen, a natural Brazilian Beauty for your reference. Wouldn’t you just love to rock her hair? We most certainly would!)

Here’s the truth, no matter where you’re going to purchase hair extensions there is a high chance that you’re paying top dollar for junk and that it is not in fact Brazilian or whatever else it may be that season. Not to say Brazilian hair does not exist, because it does. You just won’t find any genuine Brazilian hair selling for $60 per bundle or clip in set . It’s just Economics 101 people- you can’t get an amazing, rare, quality product for 60 bucks. If that was the case, Bentleys would be going for a manageable $20k….dream on.

(We love the Princess of Pop, but Ms. Britney, who sold you this hair for your extensions? It looks dry and…kind of like some of that “$60 wonder hair”. Don’t worry everyone, Brit has since been redeemed in the world of extensions- she upgraded to REAL hair!)

Where is the hair actually coming from you ask? Very good question. It is most likely coming from one of two places, China or India. For the purposes of this blog we will ALWAYS say NOOOO to China because they are the reigning authorities when it comes to chemically processed hair, with many of those chemicals being illegal in the US…yikes. India has gorgeous hair (we should know, we carry it), but only from the correct places, otherwise they’re giving you product at about the same level as China (more on this later).

(Now, lets be serious. Does this REALLY look like Peruvian hair? First of all, its coming from China…thats a long way from Peru. I personally have never seen a human being alive with hair like this and you never will…because its FAKE. Reader, you have been warned)

There’s a huge wave of VIRGIN and REMY being thrown around in the extension industry. Take it at face value because many of these people have no idea what they are talking about. Basically, you’re just buying the same hair we talked about earlier with a new name and flashy packaging.

(I’m willing to bet someone sold Ms. Richie some gorgeous “Virgin Remy Hair Extensions”. We all see how that turned out. I’m getting a Medusa vibe here.)

Save your money and buy something that you will look good in and feel good about. Our hair is ORGANIC, I’ll let that sink in. It’s the same principle as organic food. No chemicals, no dyes, just natural good- looking hair that will last and add an extra oomph to your va-va-voom (we all have it!). If you want to check out some organic hair check out our website (link below). To see the other hair that we discussed (Remy, Virgin, Brazilian etc.) all one needs to do is simply go to your nearest beauty supply store or google “Virgin Brazilian Hair” from the comfort of your own home. Trust us, you will laugh…and maybe even cry when you realize what these people have been selling you.
